At Your Word-9
Luke
chapter 5: 1-11
“ So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the Word of God, that He
stood by the lake of Gennesaret,2and saw two boats standing by the
lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. 3Then
He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s and asked him to put out a
little from the land, and He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat”.
4When
He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out
into the deep and let down your nets for a catch”
5
But Simon
answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing;
nevertheless at your word I will let down the
net”. 6And when they had done this, they caught a great number of
fish, and their net was breaking. 7So they signaled to their partners
in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both their
boats, so that they began to sink. 8When Simon Peter saw it, he fell
down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “depart from me, for I am a sinful man, ’O’ Lord!”
9for
he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had
taken; 10and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who
were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “do
not be afraid. From now on you will catch men”. 11 So when
they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him.
Just for a few minutes I want to share with you how you can
“Trust God’s word”.
In the reading above Peter said to Jesus, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at your word I will let down the net”.
Dear friends
the word of God is trustworthy. Whatever He has said in the scriptures (His holy
word) is true and you can take it all the way to the bank, cash it and no
questions will be asked.
Peter demonstrated his implicit trust of the Master’s word on the lake of
Gennesaret.
From the
reading above we learn, that the Lord Jesus had just used Peter’s boat to preach
the Gospel to the multitudes, which had followed Him. Afterwards, when He
stopped preaching the Word of God He instructed Peter to cast his net into the
sea. Peter answered the Lord, “but Lord we have worked hard, all night, and did
not catch, a thing, but if you say, we’ll try again”.
The
only reason peter obeyed the word was because Master has spoken. Since the
circumstances were against that instruction but at the word of the Master the
result was so great he had to call in other partners, in other boats, to help
with the catch, or with the harvest.
Abraham was another man who demonstrated such trust in the Word of God. The Bible tells us (Genesis12) that God spoke to Abraham and told him to leave his country, his father’s family and house. A home where he had lived for so many years and owned much property because he was a very rich man. But he put his trust in God’s Word, and left everything in obedience to the word of the master. Abraham didn’t ask God, where to? He just gathered his family and all his belongings and went, not knowing where he was going but trusting that God who said “Go”, would show him where to go.
Matthew was another man who demonstrated his trust in the word of God. We this example in (Matthew 9:7-9) one day Jesus was walking towards His own house and as He passed by He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. This man was also very rich; he had his own tax office. But at the word of the master, “follow me’, he immediately arose and followed Him.
My friends I
want to tell you this that when you trust God and His Word, you will see beyond
your problems, sicknesses, fears and worries.
Peter
trusted God’s word,
the result was so great he had to call his partners to help him with the catch.
Abraham
trusted God’s word, the result was so great that
he became the father of many nations.
Matthew trusted God’s word,
not only did he become one of the Apostles but he also wrote the Gospel for us
and brought many souls to Christ.
God is ready to
perform His word in your life this very day. Jeremiah
1:12 Tells us that God is saying to all of us, I am ready to do the same
for you. The question is. Are you ready to accept His word? Are you ready to
apply His word in your life and circumstances?
I believe there are some people, who, when they hear of other people’s
testimonies of God’s faithfulness in their lives, and wonders, they normally
say, “God what about me”. After many years in the ministry I have met lots of
people who wonder if the Lord has forgotten them, if such a thought has crossed
your mind, We have a good news for you.
Isaiah 49:15-16
tells us that God never forgets us:
15“
Can a woman forget her nursing child,
And not have compassion on the son of her womb?
Surely they may forget,
Yet I will not forget you”
16
See, I have inscribed you on the palm of my hands;
your walls are continually before me.
Just as Peter, Abraham and Matthew trusted the word of God, God wants you to trust His word today.
Proverbs 3:5-6
says the following:
5
“ Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;
6
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct your paths.
His promise for you is, “ I will never leave you nor forsake you, I am with you
always, even to the end of the age. Your pains are my pains, your needs are my
needs saith the Lord”.
Will you trust His word now; Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life and life more abundantly”. He loves you and is waiting to hear from you.
Jesus is
inviting all those who are in need, He said in Matthew
11:28-30
“Come
to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”.
You
may have tried putting your trust in some men and women or you may have tried
many other man made things, beliefs and probably have been very disappointed
with the results.
Why don’t you try Jesus?
Jesus said, 29
“Take
My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you
will find rest for your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”
I
will not only share your burden but I will take your burden.
This is the Word of God for you, I encourage you to trust Him and take Him by
his word. His word is trustworthy, you can bank it and surely it will be cashed
without any questions. He said, “I am the lord who heals you”, and this very day
he can heal your every hurt in your life. All you have to do is trust His word.
