The Lord’s prayer or the prayer Jesus taught - 8

Lord Jesus gave this prayer as a pattern to His disciples.
As a model of prayer every Christian learn it by heart. It is a prayer which every Christian treasures.
Its purpose is to awaken and stimulate our faith. Through this prayer our blessed Lord Jesus invites us to approach God as Father. Also the Lord’s prayer has been called a summary of the gospel. It is a prayer of all prayers.
It is a prayer which almost covers every need of our life. So it is a prayer for personal, family and evangelism.

Matthew 6 verse 9, Jesus said, in this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.

Our Father, when we say our, it becomes the prayer for the whole family of believers. it becomes our family prayer.
Father, indicates our personal relationship with God. When we repent & receive Jesus our Lord and Saviour into our hearts the Bible tells us, that God gives us the right to become His children. and we have the right to call God our Father, our daddy, and our abba.
in heaven, God dwells in three places, although He is every where, He sees everything and He knows everything.
First place He dwells is in heaven,
isaiah 66:1
Second place He dwells is in a repentant heart, 1 corinthians 3:16
Third place He dwells is in His word, God and His word are one.

hallowed be Your name, Your name be made holy, where? first in my life by reverence and obedience, secondly we are praying that His name be made holy, where the message of the gospel is not received. So it becomes the prayer of evangelism, prayer for the lost souls.

10,
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.

Your kingdom come, where? in my heart, secondly in the hearts of those who have not received Jesus as their Lord, Saviour and King. Kingdom means where king reigns or where king dominates. So when you say, Your kingdom come, you are praying that the kingdom of God would come in the hearts of the lost souls in your street, in your town, in your country and in the rest of the world. The kingdom of God is where the king Jesus reigns.
once asked by a pharisees when the kingdom of God would come?
Jesus answered the kingdom of God is within you,
Luke 17:20-21
Your will be done
, our souls can never be truly happy, till our wills be entirely subjected to God, and become one with the will of God.
what is the will of God? Is to obey Him fully,
Matthew 7:21
once His will is taking place in our life, you are praying His will be done in the local governments and the main governments. So you are not only praying for the lost souls but also for the governments to make the right decisions in the favor of the gospel of Jesus, and also not to come in the way of our preaching and witnessing.
on earth as it is in heaven, just as angels in heaven are always ready to perform His will, so His children should be ready to perform His word on earth.

11, give us this day our daily bread. we are praying that God will provide all the necessities of life. All the needs for this life, physical and spiritual. With full confidence in God as our Father we say, Father give us this day what we need.

12, and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
God’s forgiveness to our daily offences is conditional, if we don’t forgive others we don’t receive forgiveness. Forgiving others is not easy but we have no choice. We need to break our pride and forgive others regardless what they have done to us. by doing this we are releasing them into the mercy of God.
Forgiving is forgetting what people have done to you.

13, and do not lead us into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
for Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

and do not allow us to be led astray and loose our faith in you as a result of trials and temptations.
in our temptations it is God who make the way of escape,
1 Corinthians 10:13
source of temptation is not God but the Devil, James 1:13-16
finally count it all joy, James 1:2

for Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Finally we say to our Father in heaven and now in our hearts, it is You who are reigning in our lives by Your power of the Holy Spirit and we give you all the glory and honour forever and forever. Amen
