Emmanuel, God with us - 3

Which is translated, ‘God with us’ Matthew 1:23

God with us

The most amazing event that ever took place in the history of planet earth was a visit from the Son of God. It has astonished the minds of many people and would astonish the mind of all if they could only give it some serious thought. Who was He? Was He only a man? For those who thoughtfully consider the remarkable accounts of what He did and what He said, one must acknowledge that He was more than a mere man.

He came into the world, as no other man came. The word became flesh, Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” Matthew 1:23

He spoke as no other has ever spoken. I and The Father are one. I am who I am. Before Abraham was I. He spoke with authority and power.

He lived as no other man has ever lived, without sin.

He died as no other man died, even on the cross he said, “Father forgive them”, and He forgave their sins in their crimes.

He rose from the dead as no man has ever risen, nothing could hold him back: nor grave, death, sin or pains. By defeating all he arose from the grave on the third day.

And he did as no other man has ever done before. He cured every sickness there was, raised people from death, he had authority on nature by calming down the storm and walking on the water.

His effect on those of His own days as well as on millions of people since then has been astounding. When the Roman officer and his men guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened to Him, they said, Truly, this was the Son of God, and many others have said the same since that day.

Why did He come?

He came because God loves us. The Bible tells us, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life”. He came to reconcile us with God because sin had separated us from Him. He came to save those who were lost. He came not to be served, but to serve, and give His life as a ransom for many. He came to become sin for us; he came to forgive our sins; He came to take us back to God; and he came to give us eternal life.

Did He come in vain?

The answer is, “of course not”. Although there were many who rejected Him and opposed Him. They also tried to silence Him and even thought to destroy Jesus. But there were those who believed in Him, received Him, and acknowledged Him as the Saviour who laid down his life for them.

Is there any better news for a person than that they may have their sins forgiven, and be reunited to God, whose laws they have disobeyed? The Bible tells us, “All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned, every one, to his own way, and the Lord has laid on Him (Jesus) the iniquity of us all”.

The one they crucified was Emmanuel, God with us. Christ suffered for our sins, the Just one, for the unjust, that he might bring us to God.

The question to ask is:

· Did he come for you in vain?

· Have you realized what he has done for you?

· Do you know that He came for you?

Jesus says to all: Come to me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Jesus welcomes the worst of sinners in the world, the broken hearted, the sick in body, and Jesus welcomes all those who have tried and been defeated in life. Jesus is saying to all, “Come to me and I will give you rest”.

If you come to Him, believing in Him, He won’t turn you away. He will come into your heart, into your life, into your family. He will give you the power to be like Him. He is waiting now, to see what you are going to say.  Can you, will you, quietly, humbly, trustingly, ask him to come into your heart? Come as you are, for He loves you, Matthew 11:28-30

He is waiting now, to see what you are going to say.  Can you, will you, quietly,

humbly, trustingly, ask Him into your heart, Emmanuel, God with us, to come into your heart to stay?

Pray like this:

Dear Lord Jesus,

I have heard your Word and know that I am a sinner, and need your forgiveness. I believe that you died for my sins. I now invite you to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow you as my personal Lord and Saviour.

In Jesus' name. Amen.
