Jesus prayed all night - 3
Luke 6: 1- 2, tells us that the
disciples of the Lord began to plucked the heads of grain and began to eat them.
Pharisees complained to Jesus because it was on the Sabbath.
Jesus explained to them in Luke 6: 3-5, dont
worry too much about it because I am the lord of Sabbath.
Then in Luke 6: 6 11, tells us that Jesus went
even further by healing a man whose right hand was withered. That really upsets
the Pharisees because again it was on the Sabbath. So they began to harass Jesus
Question, what would you do when you feel you have been harassed, put under pressure and being picked on? You probably cry, seek help, share your problems with someone, read the Word or pray.
Luke 6:12
tells us that Jesus went out to the mountain to pray (alone), and continued all
night in prayer to God.
Not only He received strength (as a man) to over come the pressure of the
religious leaders but also prayed to make the most important decision of His
coming, of His mission.
1) Luke 6:13,
He chose 12 disciples out of many and called them apostles meaning one sent on a
mission. They were chosen to bring the Gospel message to you and me.
Now Jesus prayed all night in prayer to make that decision. Why? Because there
must been hundreds to choose from. He had to consult the Father for His
decision.
How much time do we need to spend in prayer, before we make any decision?
Not only He chose 12 disciples but there were other great results of His all night prayer.
2) Luke 6: 14 16, He even confirmed their names so everybody knows who is in the team, who is responsible to take the message of the Gospel to the uttermost part of this earth.
3) Luke 6: 17 18, because He prayed all night He was able to preach and teach by the power of God. Luke tells us that multitudes of people heard the Word and were healed and delivered from unclean spirits.
4) Luke 6:19, tells us because He prayed all night, for power went out from Him and healed them all. Do we want to see that continuous power flowing through your church? We need to pray, long prayers. Some time all night if you can.
5) Luke 6: 20 23, not only Jesus blessed His disciples but He preached one of the greatest lessons of all time, we call it the Sermon on the Mount or the sermon on the plain.
